A long way to become perfect

It is bothering me that I spent the last 2 hours to learn how to present a nice slideshow in my websites. I know already how to make a standard slideshow using many application available for free, but I am not happy because they kept some ad links intact right under the slideshow – something I consider not so pretty.

After an unsuccessful attempt with a plugin that is suppose to be the one I need, I gave up and did some googling, this time my effort is quite fruitful. I have been keeping the pictures in my Flickr account, and I found this website:

It was tingling in my mind these afternoon and out of nothing I was thinking about this old friend of mine – Piet.

And I got the answer in the evening, among the new emails arrived today, this sad news brought me to weep. Piet Feddersen has passed away.

About five years ago, in the cold September he picked me up from Flensburg train station, managed to take my extra heavy luggage to the second floor of student dormitory, and was still able to make me laugh with his jokes despite of the miserable & depressing situation I had to face, being an alien in a strange place, leaving my family back home.

Later on I knew that he helped all of us, the international students who arrived from many countries. And he did more than helping us, he took care of us.

One day he had a heart attack. I and Antonieta were not allowed to see him in his room while he was hospitalized, so we decided to visit him soon as he was back home. He told us how he bravely call the medical aid right after the attack and that was how he survived. That day I got to know him better, he told us about his broken family, his long lost love, and his passion on the boat he was constructing himself. He was 68 years old in 2007 when he finally sail his boat which he named Lucky Castle.

The last week of my stay in Germany, he did me a big favor by help me to find a place to bind my final work – a four hundreds page document which was promptly rejected by 3 photocopy shops since they can’t handle the thickness.

Goodbye Piet, thanks for being a very good friend, for lending your helping hands, and for the courage you taught me even when you did not mean to do so.

Headache oh headache

Belakangan ini sakit kepala sejenis migrain sering mengganggu. Well anyway, looking back to my health history, sakit kepala pernah jadi langganan. Dulu sih muncul tiap kali abis ujian, atau lagi intens mengerjakan sesuatu. Dan pernah nanya ma dokter katanya ada gejala anemia. Nasiiiib jadi orang kurus ;p

Kalo dipikir-pikir, iya sih sekarang lagi intens mengerjakan something…. or let me say – many things. Running three businesses at once – all of them are less than 6 months old babies – means only one thing, too many things to do and so little time. Belum lagi kerjaan-kerjaan tambahan dari lingkungan sosial (heuheu bingung kan…. maksudnyaa??).

Eniwei baswei, yang lebih bikin iq khawatir adalah Mila sekarang sering ngeluh pusing dan terlihat pucat. Aduuuh anakku sayang, mengapa mesti menurunkan gen itu dari mamamu, bolehlah nurunin pinternya dan baik hatinya…. tapi kurusnya??? jangan atuh nak

Saat harus banyak-banyak bersyukur

Yang perlu disyukuri minggu ini adalah…..

Alhamdulillah pengajian bulan kedua di cluster jadi diadakan, dan tausiah dari Pak Muz benar-benar mengetuk hati, bahwa melatih kesabaran dan mampu menahan amarah adalah ciri-ciri orang bertaqwa, dan meskipun sulit – it’s something do-able Insya Allah. Sore itu hati terasa lebih ringan saat melangkah pulang sehabis pengajian.

Alhamdulillah sukses menjadikan Alith the happiest boy in the block hari Minggu yang lalu – it’s his birthday party. Aduh terharu deh dengar kalimat ini keluar berulang-ulang dari bibir mungilnya “makasih mama sudah bikin ade senang banget” sambil nge-kiss pipi kiri, kanan, hidung sampe basah hehehe

Pagi ini bangun dengan hati galau, secara harus membuat keputusan yang crucial tapi belum yakin sama diri sendiri. Siangnya habis Dhuhur, sholat sunat dua rakaat dan membuka Al-Quran, berdoa dalam hati minta pertolongan saking bingungnya apa yang harus diminta. Alhamdulillah, one unexpected phone call yang datang malam ini ternyata membukakan jalan keluar.

Okay, my dearest Ika tagged me about a month ago, so there we go – I gotta do my homework.

7 weird things about me

1. I hate being thin, while most of my friends struggle on reducing weight, I urgently need to gain some.

2. I stick to Disney channel even when my kids have gone to bed, I faithfully watch Hannah Montana, That’s so Raven, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, Life with Derek, also High School Musical over and over again.

3. The first years I was in college, I sat in the front during exams so that I can not cheat – and that’s only BECAUSE my best friend’s wise words always stinging in my ears – Ulie, cheating is no good

4. I bought and collected too many toys which my kiddos only play for a while (and that’s how I got the idea about toys hiring)

5. My most relaxing seating position is having one leg curled under the other leg – but in some cultures it’s considered inappropriate though

6. My last paid job was a 5pm – 10pm work as a test reader for Elementary School’s Math Evaluation project – a job I got after passing an easy math test

7. My fave drink is a mix of coke and sweetened condensed milk – a deadly drink a friend once called, and she called me weirdo coz I prefer it over a glass of beer

a : nggg, apa ya… semacam software untuk bikin website (haiya lah – say something better). Jadi begini…. website itu ada yang statis, contohnya website jadul – bikinnya pake html. Nah kalo yang dinamis pake wordpress.

Dengan CMS, website bisa diisi ratusan content, ada database dsb sehingga kerjaan mengupdate jadi lebih simpel.

a : baik-baik aja (getok….) err maksudnya wordpress adalah salah satu CMS yang makin banyak diminati saat ini karena konon lebih mudah digunakan, lebih SEO-friendly (nah ini jangan minta dibahas sekarang yak), dll. Selain wordpress ada banyak CMS yang lain kek Joomla, Drupal (bukan krupal lho hehehe), Mambo, wuihhh banyak deh. Tapi eike belajar wordpress ajah, cukup satu bikin mabok heuheuheu – janganlah ditanya bikin program CMS sendiri, ampuuun deh.

a : duh gimana sih kan dah dibilang, eniwei awalnya sih eike terpesona tampilan website-website yg ternyata dibikin pake wordpress, bisa di-customize sedemikian rupa seakan dibuat sama web designer pro. Lagian, ternyata dah ada plugin untuk shopping cart nya kan penting tuh buat bikin toko online. secara cita-cita eike dari dulu ya disitu2 aja
